Established in July 2014 as a two-women business (which explains the name Chocolate Sisters), we started off selling handmade babycarriers (ringslings, bambu-wraps), and kidsclothing, all made with beautiful African wax (Ankara) fabrics.
The beauty of these fabrics is something both of the creators found breathtaking, and after just making handmades for our own daugthers, we expanded to create tailormade goods for costumers, troughby Facebook. We've worked and uptill now, still work, troughby a very unique concept: Pick your fabric, send in your desired design and measurments and... We'll hook you up!
Chocolate Sisters quickly became a succesful concept, with many costumers worldwide, being very popular in Holland, Belgium, Sweden and UK, with many African and European clients. Especially the Gambian society in above named countries have been well supportive, and Chocolate Sisters became a brandname many people heared about.
Chocolate Sisters went a one-women business by September 2014, as one Sister found herself in a position where she should give her health first priority, above creating and non-stop sewing. The other Sister remain running Chocolate Sisters, by the same name, as it got to be known allready, and the first months where the name got created, couldn't be missed in founding the company.
Chocolate Sisters has won her first award in December 2014, on New Years Eve in London, United Kingdom. We got nominated for 'Best Gambian Designer 2014', and troughby and internetvoting for a few weeks, we have managed to win the award and run ahead on all the other nominees, who've allready set their names in The Gambian Fashion Desiging Industry. The 'Best Fashion Designer 2015' award followed a year after recieving her first, a great achievement for the young entrepeneur!
By June 2015 things started the bubble with the company, as we decided to offer another bit of African clothing, beside tailor-made-to-order. We got busy designing a ready-to-wear collection, which will be online for sale in our webshop. Our clothingline is fresh, modern but always with a cultural twist. Chocolate Sisters is your brand if you are looking for young, new and affordable handmade couture. Ever unique, always limited! Our ready-to-wear-collections are one of a kind. We've only got a bit of stock, just to keep things refreshing and unique.
Chocolate Sisters got mentioned as 'The fastest growing fashionbrand in The Gambian diaspora' by Gambian Talent Promotion in the beginning of 2016.
In March 2016, Chocolate Sisters teamed up with Julius Holland (www.jansenholland.com) for their 'Haute JOLLOF' Exclusive Runway Collection 2016. We're very proud, grateful and honoured to work with one of the largest distributors in African Fabrics worldwide!
